Are High Reps with Light Weights Better For Weight Loss?

Sports Nutrition

“Exercise? I thought you said extra fries”

What the Internet says:

“Higher reps with lighter weights is the golden ticket for weight loss…”

What I say:

Let’s look at the science!

We know a consistent calorie deficit is the main component needed to achieve weight loss successfully

Logic would suggest that you’re going to burn more calories the with the more reps you do

Because you are working out for longer, and because it’s more cardio based

Well how about considering this, the opposite:

Low rep and high weights you’re working out for less time

But with the same total load of weight moved over the session

You’re going to burn the SAME amount of total calories

Research shows:

That either high rep low weight or low rep high weight you will effectively achieve the same

Therefore what does your weight loss success come down to?

Nutrition. Your diet. The food you put in your mouth

Calories

Weight loss = consistent calorie deficit #ccd

Do the rep range you ENJOY when exercising

Eat right

Reap the benefits

I hope that makes sense, and let me know if you have any questions!
