Q: What kind of food can I eat whilst fasting?
A: Fast food
The Theory:
You must eat breakfast because
1) It kick-starts your metabolism so you will lose more weight
2) It regulates blood sugar levels and therefore reduces sugar cravings
3) If you’re trying to lose weight, it stops you eating more, later in the day
The Reality:
Intermittent fasting simply means a restricted eating window
Skipping breakfast is a form of intermittent fasting
The most common way to intermittent fast is the 16/8 protocol
Which means for example eating between the hours of 12 noon and 8pm
And not eating (fasting) for the remaining 16 hours
Within a 24- hour period
In answer to the above theory:
1. Yes, eating breakfast kick-starts you metabolism, of course, because you are consuming calories
If you’re eating the same total number of calories over a 24-hour period
Your metabolism will be stimulated the same either way
Total weight lost, will be the same
2. Unless you have a condition, like diabetes, that affects blood sugar control
Intermittent fasting can have a positive impact on blood sugar regulation
Therefore reducing cravings overall
Helping you to stick to your calorie deficit #ccd
3. Intermittent fasting gives you less opportunity to “eat more/ over consume calories”
Think of it like this
Skip a 500-600 calorie breakfast
Eat lunch and dinner as normal
And if you only have until 8pm to eat, see you later late night snacker
You’ve created yourself a calorie deficit that requires not a single ounce of stress or thinking
To conclude:
There is absolutely zero magic to intermittent fasting
But for some it can be an easy way to create a sustainable, consistent calorie deficit
And reach your end goal of looking better, feeling better and being a better human, much easier 😉
