Q: How do you keep warm in a cold room?
A: You go to the corner; it’s always 90 degrees
So is it true that exposing yourself to cold temperatures can help you lose weight?
(As I sit here writing this article, exposing myself to cold temperatures my body isn’t comfortable with, haha)
To keep your body temperature stable, your body will find ways to warm up
For example, shivering
The reason it’s important to keep your body temperature stable
… well, an ice-cold heart is neither nice nor practical, you know… to stay alive…
So yes shivering will burn extra calories
And to keep the body at energy maintenance (where it’s comfortable being)
Your appetite will increase to counteract the extra calories burnt
So yes, it is true that exposing yourself to cold temperatures can help you lose weight
… as long as you don’t eat back the extra calories burnt
I.e. to keep you in that calorie deficit
Conclusion:
The colder the temperature = the more shivering = the more calories burnt
Times that number by amount of total exposure gives you a recipe for cold weather weight loss
(P.s. you’d have to be cold for a long old time for the calories to add up to anything worthwhile!)
Does this information make me want to sit here in the cold writing this article any longer?
Absolutely not! Haha!
Take care and stay safe! Yours In Health,
Steph <3
