“You seem to be very well educated on stuff that you made up” – anon
“The larger the blood sugar spike, the bigger the drop therefore the hungrier you will get and the harder it will be to stick to your calorie deficit”
Or so they say anyway…
Let’s look at the science
Simple carb = watermelon = fast digested + a quick release of energy
Complex carb = potato = slow digested + a slow release of energy
Here’s the problem with focusing on simple vs. complex carbs
Watermelon, along with other simple carbs such as bananas, do indeed get digested quicker, with a quicker release of energy
But they also contain vital nutrients that keep us alive + kicking
Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre to name a few
So should we be avoiding simple carbs when trying to lose weight?
No! Why?
On a calorie controlled diet, paired with a diet that focuses on the 80/20 rule
You will not feel the effects of the blood sugar spike (in a healthy individual)
Here’s my advice:
Focus on calories, consuming enough protein and a massive intake of micronutrients
… You know, the stuff that has 90% effect on you succeeding
And forget that there are even different types of carbs
For your weight loss goal, it’s literally irrelevant
Any questions then of course get in touch as I would love to discuss this topic in more detail with you.
